A
group of Postgraduate students (N=400) of Bhagalpur University India,
was given a measures of social conformity, self-esteem and social
esteem. Conformity and low self-esteem were significantly related
(r=.10, p<.01, df=398). Conformists were found to have significantly
lower self-esteem than the nonconformists. However, the hypothesis
of conformists having significantly lower social-esteem than the
nonconformists was not substantiated (r=.02, p=ns., df=398).
