Abstract
Creativity, Intelligence and Temperament: A Study of Interrelationship
Q. Hasan & S.R. Khan
The study was carried out to explore the relationship among creativity, intelligence and temperament. A verbal battery of creativity tests, Raven's Progressive Matrices and `Thorndike Dimensions of Temperament' were administered on 1Q4 male Ss {age range 12--16 years) drawn from 7th and 8th grade classes. Besides enabling to identify the temperamental correlates of the three types of creativity scores, namely, fluency, flexibility and originality, the findings of the present study have implications for: (1) the nature of relationship between creativity and intelligence, and (2) for the controversy regarding uni- versus multi-dimensionality of creativity. It was found that the intercorrelations among the three creativity scores are relatively higher than the correlation of any one of them with intelligence. In general, the three creativity scores were not found to be associated with the same temperamental dimension. Factor analysis of the matrix of intercorrelations among the variables yielded five factors. One of the factors was identified as Introversion-Extraversion. The fifth factor was found to run through the three creativity scores.
