Sex-Role Preferences among Young Children of Rural
and Urban Social Groups

Using Brown's It kale for Children the sex-role
preferences of the rural and urban children were studies in 220 three-four-
and five-year-old children. The major findings of this study were (a)
girls at three years scored significantly more feminine than four-
and five-year old girls; (b) four- and five-year-old boys were significantly
more masculine than three-year-old boys; (c) significant differences
were found in rural and urban girls; (d) upper caste boys and girls
were more clearly aware of their appropriate sex-roles than the lower
caste boys and girls.
