Abstract
Psycho-Socio-Behavioral Variables of Enduring Chronic and Acute Battered Wife Roles
P.O. Peretti & Mavis Buchanan
There is an ever-growing number of battered wives in the American society. The present research was conducted to try to determine: (1) specific psycho-socio-behavioral variables associated with chronic and acute battered wives; (2) similarities and/or differences of each, and (3) their influences of helping the wives endure the battered wife role. Results suggested eighteen, difference variables of importance in the battered wife role; however, there were significant differences regarding which of these tended to be associated with either the chronic or acute battered wife role. Influences of cultural tradition, socialization, and learning are also considered in the development of male and female gender roles facilitating the wife-beating process.
