Abstract
Memory Processes in Recall and Recognition
H. Tajika
Two experiments were carried out to test the hypothesis that the phenomenon of recognition failure of recallable words might be obtained under the different context condition, regardless of interpolated task conditions. In the first experiment, subjects performed recognition tasks in the different context condition after having studied each of interpolated tasks. Subjects in the second experiment were given recognition tasks in the same context condition. I t was shown that (i) recognition performances were affected not only by a context, but also by interpolated task conditions, and (ii) the phenomenon of recognition failure of recallable words were found to be higher under the different context condition. These results were discussed in the light of episodic theory inclusive of the principle of encoding specificity.
