Abstract
Field Dependency, Recognition Capacity and Extraversion
R.G. Chatterjer & B. Paul
This study was undertaken to investigate the differences between field dependent (FD) and field independent (FID) individuals on extraverted temperamental quality, human faces recognition ability (HFR) and geometrical figure recognition ability (GFR). Embedded Figure Test (EFT) was administered to 112 undergraduate male college students. Among them 20 FD individuals and 20 FID individuals were selected. Extraversion was measured by EPI (Eysenck and Eysenck) and for HFR and GFR ability, suitable tests were used. Findings revealed significantly more extraverted temperament and HFIZ ability but significantly less GFR ability of the FD group than FID group. Significant association among the variables, in the expected direction, was also evident in the present study. Finding was discussed in terms of efficacy of the FD and FID individuals on social and non-social cognitive activities and dealings.
