A group of 224 Chinese adolescents aged 15 years old were tested on Revised Mooney Problem Check List Coopersmith's Self-Esteem Inventory, Nowick-Strickland's Locus of Control Scale, Raven's Standard Progressive Matrices and Family Environment Scale. The results indicated that cultural influence permeates the pattern of adolescent self-perceived problems with anxiety over school performance and proper conduct standing out prominently. Other problems like pursuit of self-identity, independence, heterosexual relationship receive relatively less emphasis. The magnitude of adolescent self-perceived problems, self-esteem, locus of control and three dimensions of family environment (ie. Cohesion, Organization, and Conflict) are all significantly inter-correlated. However, intelligence is not .related with anything except two family dimensions-Active-Recreational and Intellectual-Cultural Orientations.
