Development of the Understanding of Definite and Indefinite Reference
F. Salili & R. Hoosain
This study looks at the development of the understanding of definite and indefinite reference (indicated by articles and pronouns such as the, it, some) in Iranian children. Results are compared with those of studies on English speaking subjects. The cross-linguistic study indicates some cognitive (pre-linguistic) factors that account for difficulty children have in general. There are also some differences between the performance of Iranian children and English speaking children.
