Abstract
What do Prospective Psychology Students Know About the Subject?
A. Furnham & R. Rawles
Cane hundred and fifty prospective psychology students completed a multiple choice test measuring misconceptions about psychological knowledge and interests (McCutcheon, 1991). However, on only 8% of the questions did 50% or more of the total subjects get the answers correct and on 25 questions (nearly 40%) fewer than 20% of the subjects chose the correct answer. These results are discussed in terms of the literature on lay theories in psychology.
