Hostility as a Function of SES, Family Type and Parent-Child Relation
M. Pramanick
The objective of the study was to determine the main as well as interactive effects of SES, family type and parent-child relation on hostility. The study was a 3 x 2 x 2 factorial experiment where Ss were classified into three SES-lower, middle and upper, two family types-nuclear and joint and two father-child relation-restrictive and permissive on the basis of their scores on Kuppuswamy SES scale and Mohsin Parent-child Inventory and information about their family type. These Ss were 360 urban college girls of Bhagalpur city of India. Hindi adaptation of Bending Hostility Scale was administered to them in small groups. Independent effects of SES and father-child relation were found to be significant. The interactive effect of only SES x father-child relation was significant. Family type either independently or interactively with any other factor did not influence hostility significantly.
