Abstract
Reliability and Validity of the Suinn-Lew Asian Self-Identity Acculturation Scale with Japanese Temporary Residents
K. Kodama, S.S. Canetto
The reliability and validity of the Suinn-Lew Asian Self-Identity Acculturation Scale (SL-ASIA) were examined with a sample of 62 Japanese temporary residents. The internal consistency reliability was .72., lower than in studies with Asian Americans. There was a significant correlation between SL-ASIA scores and self-ratings of acculturation (r= .64, p<.01). However, no significant correlation was found between SL-ASIA scores and demographic data assumed to reflect levels of acculturation (such as numbers of years of education in the U. S.). A factor analysis yielded a factor structure that was interpretable but somewhat different from the factor structure reported in studies with Asian Americans.
