T. Hatta, A. Kawakami & T. Hirose
The abilities of object and spatial properties memory were examined using Soroban learners and Novice children as subjects. Experiment 1 compared recall performances between two groups using digit and shape stimuli, and found that the Soroban learners were superior in performance of digit recall but not of shape recall. Experiment 2 examined the memory of categorical and spatial properties with Soroban and Novice children. The results showed that the Soroban learners were superior in the processing of the spatial properties. Based upon these results, effects of Soroban learning on brain function were discussed.
