Abstract
Abraham Maslow and Asian Psychology
T.S. Cleary & S.I. Shapiro
Abraham H, Mallow was instrumental in stimulating and fostering an interest in Asian psychologies among Western psychologists. He frequently drew upon concepts of philosophical Taoism and Zen Buddhism, most notably in his writings about psychotherapy and counseling, the psychology of science and inquiry, and transcendent states of consciousness such as the peak and plateau experiences. The popularity of Mallow's writings and his professional stature also helped to more generally publicize, stimulate, and legitimize the study of Asian psychologies in the West.
