Self-concept
variables of delinquent boys from intact homes and broken homes
R.H. Song |
The
purpose of this study was to examine self-concept variables of delinquent
boys from intact homes and of delinquent boys from broken homes.
In broken homes, the child suffers from the lack of love and affection
which are indispensable to the development of positive and accurate
self-concept variables. Rejection and deprivation may result from
broken homes and have a negative effect in developing the self concept
variables. The hypotheses of this study were that delinquent boys
from intact homes would demonstrate higher self-concept, self-acceptance,
and ideal self than delinquent boys from broken homes. It was further
hypothesized that delinquent boys from intact homes would reflect
lower self-ideal discrepancy than delinquent boys from broken homes.
The findings did not confirm the hypotheses as were predicted.
