Abstract
Zeigarnik-phenomenon as a function of the trait of dominance
A.K. Shinha & M.B. Sharan
Following Gough et al's contention that dominant persons betray strong completion-need and task-orientedness it was hypothesized that they would be more Zeigarnik-gone than submissive persons: Allport's A-S Reaction Study was administered to 100 college students and 20 most dominant and 20 most submissive ones were selected who finally underwent a typical Zeigarnik experiment. Supporting results were obtained in (i) a significantly higher RI-/RC ~ ratio far the dominant than for the submissive group and (ii) a significant association (chi-square) between the Zeigarnik-phenomenon and dominance. Further, dominant persons tended to be positively pro- and submissive persons positively anti-Zeigarnik.
