Parental
Tolerance of Aggression: Perceptions of Preadolescents in Thailand H.W. Gardiner & C.S. Suttipan |
Efforts
to develop a scale for the measurement of Thai children's perceptions
of parental discipline of aggressive behavior are described. Subjects
were 120 pupils of 11 to 13 year aged attending public and private
schools in Bangkok. Major findings revealed a law positive correlation
between maternal and paternal approaches to punishment of bath public
and private school children regardless of sex and a high positive
correlation in the use of parental punishment with private school
females. Harsh discipline methods were more often ascribed to lower
class parents and to fathers punishing girls. Relationships to previous
studies and suggestions for cross cultural comparisons are discussed. |
