Abstract
Maternal recognition of neonates' cries in Japan
G. Morsbach
Nineteen Japanese mothers were tested in a Tokyo hospital to check whether they could recognize the cries of their new-born babies. Although they themselves expressed doubts abut their ability, about three quarters were able to do so above chance level. Possible factors, such as the babies' sex, mothers' age or experience with previous babies did not influence the results in any significant way. The findings are in line with those obtained in industrialized Western countries.
