G. Koehler
A survey was conducted to investigate the relations of personality needs of German wives with life satisfaction in the Philippines. The study further explored satisfying and frustrating female expatriate experiences. Questionnaires were administered to 46 respondents of which 20 were followed up with an additional interview. Quantitative findings showed a significant positive correlation between the need for Change and life satisfaction abroad, but no significant relationships between other variables. Respondents were most satisfied with the life aspects Language, Marriage, Self, Leisure, Lifestyle and least satisfied with Environment, Climate, Children. The more satisfied group differed from the less satisfied group in satisfaction levels of all life aspects but Language. These findings were supported by qualitative data. Results suggested that personality is not sufficiently predictive of successful cross-cultural adjustment.
