Abstract
The Interference of Natural and Artificial Sounds with Spoken Speech: Advantage of Dichotic Over Binaural Listening
T. Hatta & S.J. Dimond
Speech paired with white noise in Experiment I and bird song in Experiment II were given dichotically or binaurally to the subjects. In both experiments, performance in dichotic listening condition was superior to that of the binaural listening condition. The results suggest that when perceptual load is distributed between both hemispheres, total capacity is increased. Sex difference and effect of quality of interference noise were also discussed.
