Abstract
Lateral Differences in Tachistoscopic Recognition of Kanji-Pairs with Mixed Image Values
H. Ohnishi & T. Hatta
'Two experiments were performed to examine the effect of the imagery on the differential hemisphere engagement for the recognition of Kanji. Subjects were required to report the Kanji tachistoscopically presented to the left and right visual fields bilaterally. Kanji-pairs of concrete or abstract were used in Experiment I and pairs of Kanji, a concrete Kanji to one visual field and an abstract Kanji to the other, were presented in Experiment II. Results showed that the effect of imagery of Kanji could not be discerned in the equal image value Kanji-pair presentation, but the potency of imagery could be observed by means of the presentation of the Kanji-pair with mixed image values.
