J. Pandey
The paper examines the role of Machiavellianism and degree of organizational formalization on ingratiation. involving a 2 X 2 factorial experimental design. Less formalized organizations are characterized as unstructured with undeveloped rules, norms and values, where as highly formalized organizations have been defined as structured with rules, norms and values. As predicted, in less formalized organizational condition, subjects showed more ingratiating responses than in highly formalized organizational condition. In addition, positive effect of Machiavellianism on ingratiation was found only to a limited extent to explain individual difference in this type of strategic social behaviours.
