Abstract
An Extension of the Concept of Affordance to Behavior
S.A. Soraci,Jr
A traditional scientific approach has been to regard the organism and environment from a dualistic perspective. Gibson's ecological analysis of perceptual processes, and his concept of affordance, was an attempt to bridge this dualistic gap. The present paper emphasizes the potential relevance of the affordance notion for understanding behavior. A structural or "systemic" perspective on the organism-environment relation is forwarded. Behavior is seen as a property of this relation.
