Abstract
Sex Trait Stereotypes of Males and Females in Malaysia
C. Word
In order to assess sex trait stereotypes of males and females in Malaysia, 100 university students completed a 300 item adjective check list, designating which items are most often associated with males and females in their culture. Analyses of data revealed distinction of males and females in five main areas: dominance, competence, extraversion, intelligence and nurturance. The male stereotype was assessed as more favourable and as having greater strength and activity components. Sex trait distinctions were discussed in terms of traditions, beliefs and values found in the multi-racial 1Vgalaysian society.
