K. Fujiwara & G. Naruse
This paper attempts to demonstrate our investigation, into the interesting therapeutic phenomena based on several clinical cases. The available findings suggest a new therapeutic procedure for symptomatic treatment and new integrated theories for psychotherapy. Several implications of theoretical and practical interest emerge from this study, followed by discussion.
(1) We are conscious of the existence of Symbolic Stimulus not only in vivo but also in the image. (2) It is composed of a special Symbolic Stimulation, and its function is made up of the symbolic effects on the other stimulations related to the symptoms. (3) We have managed to bring out the neurotic anxiety by treating only this Symbolic Stimulus without no treatment on the other stimuli. (4) In effect, it has been ascertained that the neurotic patients can be operated by using the specific treatment of Symbolic Stimulus based on this procedure. (5) This therapeutic interesting phenomenon may be called "Symbolic Desensitization". (6) Theoretically, these obtained findings enable us to consider the general problem of Image Symbolization in psychology.
