Morita
Psychotherapy and Zen Buddhism: A Comparison of Theoretical Concepts
B. Rhyner |
Many
Japanese authors hold that Morita psychotherapy is based on Western
medicine. The present paper shows how Morita developed his ideas
about the formation and cure of neurosis along Zen-Buddhist lines.
This is done by comparing the main concepts of Morita psychotherapy,
such as contradiction of thought, psychic interaction and arugamama
(to be as one is), with key ideas in Zen Buddhism.
