Individual
Differences in Generating Visual Mental Images
N. Kawamura & H. Tajika |
The
purpose of the present experiment is to extend the results of Kosslyn
(1980) by investigating individual differences in mental image generation
and inspection. Twenty fast image-generating subjects and twenty
slow image-generating subjects who were selected in the pretest were
given each of seven animals' names and were instructed to generate
visual images or not. They were presented a property of an animal
and were instructed to judge whether the animal possessed the property.
Animal properties varied in size and associative strength based on
the results of the pretest. Results of fast image subjects differ
from those of slow ones. Individual differences in visual imagery
were discussed.
