Abstract
The Self-Concept of Delinquent and Non-Delinquent Saudi Juveniles
F. Hilmi
The aim of this study was to examine the self-concept similarities and dissimilarities of young Saudi delinquent and non-delinquent males. Seventy-seven delinquent subjects (age average=16.27 years) were compared with ninety-nine non-delinquent subjects (age average=15.31 years). The Twenty Statements Test was used to measure the self-concept dimensions, and a content analysis was performed on the data collected. The data showed that delinquency is associated significantly with negative self-descriptions, with the absence of positive attitudes towards school and with the absence of participation in socially-accepted recreational activities. Such results were in line with the results achieved by other self-concept researchers.
