The
Selective Recall of Attitude Consistent Information: A Study concerning
Sex Differences
A. Furnham & S. Duignan |
Male
and female subjects listened to a tape recording about sex differences,
half of which showed female superiority over males and half the opposite.
Subjects were also rated on their sex-role attitudes by completing
the British version of the Attitudes towards Women Scale. Analysis
of the free and cued recall results provide modest evidence of the
selective recall hypothesis with males remembering more anti-female
(pro-male) information. Subjects with positive attitudes to women
tended to recall more pro- and anti-female statements. These results
are discussed in terms of gender schema theory.
