Characteristics
of Galvanic Skin Response in Depressive Patients and Normal Subjects
P.K. Biswas |
Eighty-four
patients suffering from depression were compared with 84 matched
normal controls with respect to various GSR characteristics. Non-significant
group difference was obtained with respect to all the GSR characteristics
except amplitude. Later a symptomatic categorization of the patients
was made in order to see whether the patients could be more distinctly
differentiated from the normals on the basis of the response characteristics,
and whether the patients having similar symptoms would show any similarity
amongst themselves in their response characteristics. Symptomatic
categorization was found fruitful. All the three sub-categories i.e.,
agitated, retarded and uncomplicated depressives differed significantly
amongst themselves as well as from the normals with respect to most
of the GSR characteristics.
