Changes
in Visual Field Advantage in Processing Face and Unknown Letter
with Increasing Stimulus Familiarization
T. Hatta & T. Konda |
Ross
and Turkewitz (1982) and Ross-Kossak and Turkewitz (1986) proposed
a hypothesis of sequential changes in hemispheric advantage with
increase of familiarity for unfamiliar stimulus recognition. This
hypothesis was examined by three experiments. Subjects were given
a task involving recognition of unfamiliar visual materials, human
faces and unknown letter, which were tachistoscopically presented
to the left or the right visual field. The hypothesis was not confirmed
with both face and unknown letter stimuli. Based on these findings,
effects of familiarization of stimulus materials were discussed.
