Abstract
Effects of Memory Test Instructions on Dissociations Between Explicit and Implicit Measures of Retention
H. Tajika & E. Neumann
Two experiments were carried out to re-examine the dissociation results among memory tasks found by Blaxton (1989). After an initial study phase designed to elicit either relatively more perceptual processing or conceptual processing of target material, subjects in both experiments received either explicit or implicit memory tests. Memory test instructions in Experiment 2 were slightly altered from those in Experiment 1. Only the results in Experiment 1 were consistent with those of Blaxton (1989). An explanation for the discrepancies between our Experiment 2 and those of Blaxton was offered, along with some theoretical implications.
