Biographical and Personality Predictors of Organizational Climate
A. Furnham & B. Gunter
This study examined biographical and personality predictors of 14 perceived climate factors in two different British organisations form the public and private sectors. Eight biographical variables (sex, age, salary, status in the organization, length of service, number of promotions, number of organizations worked for, grade) and work-locus of control were correlated with fourteen internally reliable perceived climate dimensions. The nine biographical/personality factors were regressed onto each of the climate factors in each of the two organizations. Work locus of control was a significant predictor of nearly all climate dimensions in the public organization accounting for an much as 30% of the variance, while salary was a more powerful predictor in the private company. These results were discussed in terms of the literature on corporate climate.
