Abstract
Effects of Students' Perception of Teachers' and Parents' Attitudes on Their Achievement Goals and Learning Strategies
H. Yamauchi & K. Miki
This study examined the relations among students' perceptions of their teachers' and parents' attitudes (attitudes of mastery and performance goal orientations), achievement goal orientations (mastery, performance and work-avoidance orientations), and learning strategies (deep processing, surface processing and self-handicapping strategies). Participants were 235 (119 girls and 116 boys) seventh grade and 169 (91 girls and 78 boys) ninth grade students in a private junior high school. Significant grade differences and sex differences were found in several variables mentioned above. Some interaction effects were also significant. Canonical correlation analyses were used to investigate the relations of students' perceptions with achievement goal orientations and learning strategies for the seventh and the ninth grade students. Implications of the results were discussed.

Key words: students' perception, goal orientation, learning strategy
